On April 24, 2025, the first meeting of the Working Group on the development of the Basin Plan for water resource management in the Kafirnigan River basin for the period 2026–2030 took place.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic of Tajikistan, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, international organizations GIZ and SDC, as well as leading experts in the field of water resource management.
Key topics of discussion included:

Tajikistan’s achievements in implementing integrated water resources management principles.

The concept of mechanisms for developing the Basin Plan.

The process of preparing the National Development Program up to 2030 in alignment with water resource management.

The use of the NEXUS approach to evaluate activities within the Basin Plan.
During the meeting, Tajikistan's high potential for further implementation of IWRM was emphasized, highlighting the importance of coordinating water and land resource development plans and integrating water management into local socio-economic development.
The event concluded with discussions and a summary session, where participants reaffirmed their readiness to work together on preparing the Basin Plan for 2026–2030.
The event is part of the "Water Resource Management in Central Asia with Consideration of Climate Impact" program, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development GIZ.
