On May 17-18, 2022, the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan, with the technical support of the UNDP, held a presentation of the “Program for the socio-economic development of the Sughd region for the period 2021-2025” in the hall of the Executive Power of the Sughd region.
The purpose of this meeting was to discuss the updated Program for the socio-economic development of the Sughd region for 2021-2025 with the participation of representatives of local authorities, working group, foreign organizations, civil society and the private sector.
The discussion was attended by the Parliament representatives: Ms. Naziri Gulbahor Nazir - Deputy Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan and Mr. Ashurzoda Giyosiddin Mahmadmurod - Member of the Majlisi Namoyandagon Majlisi Oli Committee of the Republic of Tajikistan.
Naziri Gulbahor noted the need for comprehensive support from the authorities of the Sughd region within the framework of this program, to achieve the country's strategic goals: ensuring energy independence and efficient use of electricity, overcoming the communication impasse and turning into a transit country, ensuring food security and access of the population to quality products nutrition, ensuring productive employment and accelerated industrialization of the country.
Then, the Head of the Regional Department of Economic Development and Trade of the Sughd region, Mr. Hakimzoda Hakim Karim, presented the updated Program for the socio-economic development of the Sughd region for the period 2021-2025. He noted that this program is a key document that determines the priorities and general directions of regional policy, which is aimed at achieving sustainable economic development, improving the well-being of residents and ensuring access to basic social services in the medium term.
At the end of the discussion, the Head of the Regional Department of Economic Development and Trade of the Sughd Region expressed his gratitude to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade of the Republic of Tajikistan and the UNDP for providing advisory assistance in developing a program for the socio-economic development of the Sughd Region for the period 2021-2025.
